How can I best be of service to the casting director? In short, how do I show the casting director that I am someone they can bank their career on? Whenever a casting director puts your name forward they are betting on you not only as an acting talent, but as a professional as well. How can you choose and showcase your material to best emphasize your professional bankability?

Am I showing myself off at my professional best? Your head shot reveals what you look like. Your demo reel should show that you have the chops to fulfill whatever solution the casting director is seeking. Montages are simply not necessary and often a time-waster (unless we're learning something completely new about you in each shot, which is a rare montage indeed).

Am I serving the casting director's time optimally? Each scene should be cut within an inch of its life to showcase you. You'd be surprised how much "fat" can be cut within a scene to help us focus more on you.

If I'm not driving the scene, why am I including it? You know the adage: acting is reacting. But if all you're doing in a scene is reacting to someone else's energy – and it can't be cut to highlight your part in the scene's movement forward – cut it!

Am I showing something new about myself with each scene? With each shot? On average, demos are currently getting to be around two minutes long. If you're revealing something new with every scene your demo can be as long as it needs to be. If not, cut it!

Am I making the demo viewer interested in the scene or in me? Be willing to sacrifice the story arc of your scene to a: highlight yourself and yourself alone, and b: cut to the chase and save the casting director's time. Production folks are a savvy lot. If your scene is well produced we'll "get" what it's about immediately, thereby allowing us to focus on you.

Does the scene reflect your castability? Be honest. If an older scene doesn't reflect who you are now, cut it!

My name is David Conner and welcome to Connerpost. I’m an actor/editor with over 500 demo reels under my belt. I also have ten years of post-production experience, and over thirty years in the theatre. In short, I know how actors AND actor demo reels work. I know how to highlight your talent while cutting the leanest, meanest reel anywhere.

Between 1997 and 2003 my acting background and editing skills helped me develop Planet Video into one of the most successful actor demo reel shops in Los Angeles. Since then I’ve gone independent! I now offer the best, most affordable demo reels you’ll find anywhere – right here in North Hollywood!

If you’re new here, please take a look around, spend some time with my samples and judge for yourself.

Whether you choose to edit with me or not, here are some important questions you should be asking:

Your demo reel represents your work, your professionalism and your castability. Make sure you’re in good hands!
